As I was struck by the realization that I would not get to Ghana to finish building Hope for Ghana’s second school in March, I was overwhelmed with possibilities of what Hope for Ghana needed to do at this time. The rapid spread of this deadly virus, in the midst of Ghana’s fragile healthcare system, could be devastating in such a vulnerable population.
Senyo Gbormittah, Hope for Ghana’s Ground Operations Assistant, was ready to orchestrate a crisis response, bringing public health information from village to village while donating Ghana-made masks, gloves, sanitizer, soap and washing stations to hospitals, health centers and villages.
Hope for Ghana has become creative as resources in Ghana have become more scarce, making our own washing stations and employing a tailor to make thousands of masks. Senyo was mentored by a pharmacy doctorate student to make our own sanitizer for thousands of people.
