It was a glorious day at Westwood Golf Club on Friday as 65 golfers enjoyed 18 holes under gorgeous blue skies. At night nearly 150 people filled the ballroom to be entertained by MC Lisa Sylvester, Emmy Award-winning journalist and WPXI-TV news anchor whose warmth, elegance and heartfelt compassion brought Hope for Ghana’s event to a new level, and inspired by guest speaker, Moussa Coulibaly, Vice President of Dick’s Sporting Goods.
The emotional tone of the evening was set by a video celebrating Hope for Ghana’s vision of hope and opportunity in the most remote villages of Ghana, vividly capturing our work involving education, clean water and medical relief.
The highlight of the evening was a live virtual visit with Senyo, Vice President of Operations, who eloquently and emotionally shared how he defined the word “hope” and shared the impact of Hope for Ghana in the villages and in his own life.
Senyo’s stirring final message revealed the heart and soul of this young man. “I want to tell you about a philosophy that has blessed my life. That philosophy is that I have learned to give not because I have much, but because I understand how it feels to have nothing.” When asked how he defines “hope” he said, “The word “hope” is the promise of a future, the belief that tomorrow will be better than today. It is the belief of a young child somewhere in a remote village that a great future awaits them and that their sufferings will become a thing of the past.”
Thanks to an outpouring of support from guests, sponsors and donors, Hope for Ghana’s charity event was an enormous success, raising $53,000. To everyone who was a part of this magnificent day I thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing this life-saving mission with me and transforming the lives of Ghanaian children and families forever.
