Hope for Ghana is nearing the completion of our fourth school in the village of Klokpe where children are presently learning under deplorable conditions. Our largest project to date will provide 12 classrooms that will serve kindergarteners through 9th graders and feature solar power, a library and computer lab, and so much more. Maureen’s School of Hope will proudly honor the memory of my dear friend, Maureen Ellis, the beloved mother of a very special patient of mine. Maureen was a very thoughtful and caring mother, grandmother, wife, and sister who spent much of her time volunteering and exploring the world around her. She overflowed with love for her family. A teacher in the Pittsburgh Public School system for more than 30 years, Maureen was a dedicated advocate for education with a passion for helping children.
This spring we will begin work on our eleventh library and computer lab in the village of Wlitey. The Tyler Ball Library will be named in memory of one of my dearest patients. Family and friends were so important to Tyler, and he genuinely loved and enjoyed people. He lived life to the fullest, leaving behind countless memories that will be forever in the thoughts and hearts of family and friends. His eyes lit up the room, his smile and laughter were truly contagious, and these great gifts he shared with everyone around him.
Our Mobile Medical Outreach initiative will be launched next month thanks to the immense generosity of Chris and Mitch Patti and their beautiful family who have donated our first medical outreach “tricycle” in memory of Chris’ mother who would have celebrated her 100th birthday next month. Grace Nuzzi Hartnett was raised with a strong belief in God’s Grace. Through the strength of her faith, she spent her life caring for her family and those people less fortunate. She would be proud of the work of Hope for Ghana that has touched the lives of so many.
The memories of Maureen, Tyler and Grace will continue to inspire Ghanaians for generations to come. Their legacies will live on in Ghana, bringing life and opportunity and ensure a brighter future.
