Hope for Ghana is a non-profit public charity dedicated to transforming lives and creating opportunities in rural Ghana through education, access to clean water, and healthcare. By fostering hope, empowerment, and sustainability, we strive to build resilient communities and brighter futures for generations to come.
Founded in 2011 by Dr. Steve Greene, a Pittsburgh pediatrician, Hope for Ghana was born from a life-changing medical mission trip to Ghana. Inspired by the profound needs he witnessed, Dr. Greene dedicated his life to serving the most vulnerable communities in this beautiful country.
Hope for Ghana is an impactful grassroots charity devoted to providing education, clean water, and medical relief — ultimately bringing hope and opportunity to villages throughout Ghana. The organization has achieved remarkable milestones, building four schools, twelve libraries and computer labs, and providing access to clean, potable water in over 100 villages. Determined to address the medical needs of the most underserved communities, Hope for Ghana’s Mobile Medical Outreach initiative provides a “poor man’s version” of a mobile medical van, ensuring access to healthcare where it’s needed most.
In Dr. Greene’s own words, the mission of Hope for Ghana “runs through my veins and feeds my soul,” reflecting the deep passion and commitment that drive the organization.
Hope for Ghana’s life-saving mission is transforming lives, restoring dignity, and bringing hope to children and communities across Ghana — one village at a time.
