In less than one week I will arrive in Ghana for the final phase of building Hope for Ghana’s first school and officially handing this gift over to the Ghana Education Service while opening the school and library to kindergarten and primary school children in Gakpokorpe and the surrounding villages. The final touches include the creation of a library, painting and the installation of solar power to bring clean energy to supply electricity to the school and the water pump. Hope for Ghana is equally thrilled to bring access to clean water in 2 more surrounding villages thanks to the incredible generosity of donors.
Mason’s School of Hope is dedicated to Mason Langford, a beautiful and loving boy who died at the age of 20 months. His short time on earth brought light and happiness to all who knew him. Mason’s School of Hope will be a reflection of his light and love that lives on forever.
Matt Kellermann’s Classroom is dedicated to Matthew Kellermann, a beloved young man, brother and son who died too early at the age of 18. He lived his life by the motto, “Never Stop Fighting.” His memory will live on in Matt Kellermann’s Classroom, bringing opportunity to children in Ghana to learn and have a brighter future.
Pittsburgh Classroom will honor Hope for Ghana’s roots as a charity in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Kpando Classroom will honor the 28 children at an orphanage in Kpando who inspired Hope for Ghana’s vision of hope and opportunity nearly 8 years ago.
Dr. Marbell’s Library is dedicated to Dr. Augustus Marbell, the man who introduced me to Ghanaian life, medicine and culture. Dr Marbell was a king among men. His loving, compassionate medical care changed the Suhum community and changed me forever. Dr. Marbell was a father, husband, teacher and friend whose kindness and humility will never be forgotten.
Grace Life Church in Monroeville, PA has graciously donated the entire cost of engineering a water borehole and pump in a village in Ghana presently without nearby water. Their generosity will bring potable water, changing the lives of an entire community. A second water borehole will be engineered in another remote village thanks to the wonderful generosity of Pittsburgh philanthropist, John Weiss, and others.
My journey in Ghana remains a blessing to me, as I witness a story of hope and opportunity emerging that is beyond words. A tiny village that a year ago had no water or electricity, where children walked miles to get to the nearest school, will now have a 4 classroom school including a library, solar power, toilets and a nearby water borehole and pump supplying clean water for all the nearby communities.
I remain humbled and blessed to be the storyteller of this amazing transformation. To everyone around this world who has encouraged me and supported me along the way I say thank you for bringing me to this day. As the voice of the Ghanaian children who dream about a future I say thank you for rewriting their history and bringing them a new tomorrow.
