It’s been just over a month since I returned from Kpando, a small village in the Volta region of Ghana, where I had the privilege of working at Ryvanz-Mia Orphanage. It was here that I met 28 beautiful children that have changed my life forever.
The needs of the orphanage and the needs of these children are drastically apparent and simply consuming at times, needs ranging from the immediate need for food and clothes to longer term needs like school fees and educational opportunities. Their lives inspired me then, and continue to inspire me now to want to help. I bought them rice, but the rice is gone by now. Even the shoes I bought will be tattered in no time. Those immediate needs I will continue to take care of. I need to because I love them, and because their needs are now my needs.
Yet I think of the larger needs as well, and a million ideas come to mind, but one idea keeps swirling in my mind. There is no place for these children to study at the orphanage. There is no quiet learning venue, not even a library. No computers are seen in any home in this small village let alone this orphanage. But what if these children had access to educational tools that we in America take so much for granted? What if 16 year old Anthony Dorkordi who wants to be a doctor really had the chance? And for 16 year old Wisdom Amanor who is an artist and loves studying the bible, what if he had the proper tools to pursue these dreams? So my mission became apparent. What better gift could I give to these children than a library/study with full access to computers designed to their educational needs. The possibilities are boundless. Imagine what a difference that could make in Wisdom’s younger brother Love Amanor’s life if he could learn using a computer from the age of 6. The concept is simply overwhelming and I’m overjoyed with the possibilities that lie ahead for these children.
The funds needed for such a project will be enormous. I am hoping that you or your organization will share my vision for these young orphans in Kpando and can assist in the funding of this effort. If you are interested in making a donation towards the building of this unique computer lab at Ryvanz-Mia Orphanage please contribute. I sincerely appreciate your consideration.
